India’s love for SUVs shows no signs of slowing down. With rising demand and changing buyer preferences, the sub-4-metre SUV segment is set for a major expansion in the coming years. Leading automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Hyundai and Kia are preparing fresh models, facelifts and electric options to strengthen their presence.
Here’s a detailed look at 7 upcoming compact SUVs in India that are expected to launch between 2025 and 2027.
1. Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to update its popular compact SUV with the Brezza facelift, expected to arrive later this year. The refreshed model will feature subtle exterior revisions along with upgraded interior elements.
Reports suggest the new Brezza could introduce Level 2 ADAS, helping it stay competitive in the segment. The CNG version may get an underbody-mounted tank to free up boot space. Mechanically, it is likely to continue with the 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.
2. Tata Punch Facelift
Tata Motors is set to launch the Punch facelift on January 13, bringing notable visual and feature upgrades to its best-selling model. Exterior updates are expected to include new LED headlamps, redesigned DRLs, connected LED tail-lamps, refreshed bumpers and new alloy wheels.
Inside, the Punch facelift could get a new steering wheel, 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and advanced safety tech such as a 360-degree camera and ADAS. Power will continue to come from the 1.2-litre petrol engine, available in petrol and CNG options.
3. Mahindra Vision S (Baby Scorpio)
Mahindra’s Vision S, often referred to as the Baby Scorpio, will be the first production model from the Vision concept lineup showcased earlier. Built on the NU_IQ platform, this compact SUV is expected to join the Scorpio family.
Recent spy shots reveal a boxy and upright design, with a market launch anticipated around 2027. The Vision S is likely to offer petrol and diesel engines, standard front-wheel drive, and possibly an optional AWD setup.
4. New-Generation Tata Nexon
The next-generation Tata Nexon, internally codenamed ‘Garud’, is currently under development and expected to debut in 2027. While it will retain the X1 platform, significant structural and design updates are planned.
The upcoming Nexon will likely feature a completely new exterior design, a revamped interior with more technology, and enhanced safety features. Existing petrol, diesel and CNG powertrain options are expected to continue.
5. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid
Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on a Fronx Hybrid, which will mark the brand’s first model with an in-house strong hybrid (HEV) system. This setup will use the 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine, paired with an electric motor and a small battery pack.
The hybrid Fronx could deliver fuel efficiency of over 30 kmpl, making it one of the most efficient compact SUVs in India. A launch is expected around mid-2026, along with feature upgrades such as Level 2 ADAS.
6. Kia Syros EV
Kia is preparing to enter the compact electric SUV space with the Syros EV, expected to launch in early 2026. The electric SUV will feature EV-specific styling elements, including revised bumpers, aerodynamic alloy wheels and unique badging.
Although battery specifications are yet to be revealed, the Syros EV is expected to offer a claimed range of around 400 km. It will compete with models like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV.
7. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV
The Mahindra XUV 3XO EV has been spotted testing multiple times and is likely to launch later this year. Positioned as a replacement for the XUV400 EV, it will feature design tweaks over the ICE-powered XUV 3XO.
The electric SUV is expected to offer 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh battery packs, delivering a claimed range of up to 400 km. Once launched, it will directly rival the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming Kia Syros EV.
