Tesla Expands Model Y Lineup with Performance AWD Variant
2026 Tesla Model Y : Tesla has officially revealed the 2026 Model Y Performance AWD for the global market. This flagship variant brings significant upgrades in speed, design, and driving range, making it the sportiest version of the popular electric SUV.
Power and Range : Quickest Model Y Yet
The Model Y Performance AWD can sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, making it quicker than the Long Range AWD variant available abroad and the RWD Long Range version sold in India. The top speed is capped at 250 km/h, while the driving range extends up to 580 km on a single charge.
Tesla also claims that with fast charging, the SUV can add 243 km of range in just 15 minutes, ensuring practicality for long-distance drives.
Exclusive Styling and Sportier Design Elements
The Performance variant stands apart visually with redesigned bumpers, a carbon-fibre rear spoiler, 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 alloy wheels, and red brake calipers. These upgrades give the electric SUV a sharper and more athletic road presence.
Inside, the cabin now comes with sport seats, carbon fibre trim, and a 16-inch Ultra HD infotainment display, making it feel more premium and performance-focused.
Production and Availability
The 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance AWD will be produced at Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory, with deliveries beginning in Europe from October 2025. While there is no official confirmation yet, reports suggest that Tesla may also launch this range-topping variant in India in the near future.
Tesla Model Y in India : Current Options
At present, India gets only the rear-wheel drive versions of the Model Y. The Standard variant accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds with a range of up to 500 km, while the Long Range version achieves the sprint in 5.6 seconds and offers up to 622 km of range. Both models have a top speed of 201 km/h.
With the arrival of the Performance AWD, Indian buyers may soon have access to Tesla’s sportiest Model Y yet.
